Complex and multifaceted as it may seem, Written Expression module in the Algerian EFL context mainly sheds light on academic writing. The latter contrasts sharply with the remaining types of writing, most notably, creative (general)writing. Academic writing is the type of writing that is used in colleges, universities, and research institutions in order to share information, research findings, and ideas with a scholarly audience. At university, students of English are meant to answer a great number of exam questions of various modules in the form of a paragraph or an essay. Thus, for our students to fare better in their academic careers, it behoves them to learn how to write academically.
